Wilhelm Gustav Skibbe was born on 12 Sep 1857 in Prussia. He and his wife immigrated to the United States in the late 1880’s and settled in Chicago.  His wife was named Julia Ann Panzer. In 1897, the year he was naturalized, he and his wife lived at 1245 S 20th St in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States. The 1920 census finds Wilhelm and family in Franklin Township, Pulaski, Indiana.   He appeared in the census on 27 Apr 1910 in Wayne Township, Starke, Indiana, United States.  Information on the 1920 census indicates a possible marriage date of 1884.  The 1920 census taken on 12 Feb 1920 again showed the family living in  Wayne Township, Starke, Indiana. On the  6 May 1930 census records confirm the family living in Wayne Township, Starke, Indiana.   Later  records indicate that he  lived in Henpeck- a section of North Judson.

Wilhelm died apoplexy on 10 Jan 1938 at the age of 80 in Wayne Township, Starke, Indiana. He was buried on 11 Jan 1938 at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, in Denham, Pulaski, Indiana.   His obituary was published in the North Judson News on 13 Jan 1938 in North Judson, Starke , Indiana.

Wilhelm’s obituary states that he fathered eleven children.  I have located the names of ten of the children:  Frieda cir 1887

The family lore states that Wilhelm went into business with his brother George Theodore Skibbe or Theodore George Skibbe.  The business of growing grapes failed and the two brothers parted ways.  It is believed that Wilhelm’s brother moved to Michigan.
